
In 1872, at the age of ten, Debussy was admitted to the Conservatoire de Paris, where he spent 11 years. By the time he left, he had irritated the faculty for his failure to follow the orthodox rules of composition. Nonetheless, in 1884 he won the Prix de Rome. His composition Clair de lune inspired these earrings.
